About Me
Jerre van der Hulst is the founder and developer of Alex Audio Butler, an automatic audio-mixing tool for video editors that he has built and operated largely solo. Initially released as a VST plug-in for NLEs like Premiere Pro and Davinci, it later evolved into a End Boost, a standalone desktop application powered by the same custom-built audio analysis, processing, and intelligence engine. Since late 2019, Jerre has been able to work on Alex Audio Butler full-time.
Jerre graduated in Music Technology at HKU in Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 2014, specializing in DSP and C++ development. During his graduation year, he joined Audio Ease, where he contributed to the audio engines and plug-in code behind Altiverb, Speakerphone, Indoor, and other products. His work included extensive FFT & convolution research and gave him firsthand experience in developing, testing, and refining professional audio software.
In 2017, Jerre began developing Alex Audio Butler while combining the project with part-time and freelance work. Building the business largely by himself required him to expand beyond engineering into product design, user testing, marketing, customer research, and business strategy. At ADC 2026, he draws on that journey to share practical lessons from turning an audio-software idea into a sustainable product and reaching its first thousand customers.

Most people underestimate how much is involved in making this a success. DSP and GUI development (the fun parts) are only a fraction of the work. I turned my own idea for an audio plug-in into an indie business that has been running self-sustaining for over 5 years. During ten years of working on audio products with developers and companies of many sizes, my skills had to expand from just programming into all other roles that are required to make a product […]
