Dynamic Range Compression
A Story of Useful DSP From Simple Building Blocks, Intuition and a Bit of Imagination
Dynamic range compression is one of the most useful tools in the producer, mix, and mastering engineer's arsenal. Yet, compared to filtering and distortion, it hasn't been as widely talked about.
This talk will outline my journey from a naive understanding of a compressor to squeezing the most out of those building blocks and using measurements to get close to sought-after analog equipment without having to do any circuit simulation or analysis.
I will also mention some creative directions you could try to create your own custom compression/expansion DSP.
