Beyond Licensing
Protecting the IP Behind Your Audio Software
Your DSP algorithms, processing techniques, and application code represent years of development. Licensing controls access to your software, but how do you protect the intellectual property inside it? This talk introduces software protection for audio developers and explores the relationship between licensing, license enforcement, and protecting proprietary code from reverse engineering and tampering. We’ll discuss how these approaches meet different needs and how to choose the right level of protection while considering audio performance, build workflows, and the customer experience. Using PACE Fusion 6 and Fusion Express as practical examples, we’ll show how developers can strengthen license enforcement and protect valuable application code, with integration options for CMake and JUCE projects using Projucer. We’ll explain what these protections do, how they differ from basic licensing, and where they fit in an audio software development workflow. Whether you’re developing your first plug-in or maintaining an established product range, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what to protect and how to get started. No previous experience with PACE Fusion is required.
