Bridging Audio Analysis and Interaction

An Open Toolkit for Real-Time Descriptors

In modern audio applications, from music production and interactive installations to scientific analysis, there is growing demand for real-time insight into the characteristics of sound. The Informer is an open-source solution that enables developers, artists, and researchers to compute and stream a wide range of time- and frequency-domain audio descriptors in real time.

The Informer consists in a cross-platform audio plugin (VST3/AU/LV2) and standalone app made with JUCE, a VCV Rack module and a lightweight C++ header-only library with Python bindings. It provides live computation of several low-level descriptors such as spectral centroid, kurtosis, flux, flatness, skewness, and more, all broadcastable via OSC for integration with tools like TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, Jitter and Ableton Live.

Valerio Orlandini

Valerio Orlandini (1986) is a composer, sound designer, and researcher from Florence, Italy. Active since 2005 in the fields of ambient/industrial music, his work has evolved towards a fusion of electroacoustic and concrete music, field recordings, and electronic sound design. His artistic and scientific approach is deeply influenced by his studies in biology and informatics, which he integrates into his research on sound perception, artificial intelligence and multimedia applications.

He studied Music and New Technologies at the Conservatory of Florence “Luigi Cherubini” and is currently a PhD researcher exploring the intersections of music, perception, and artificial intelligence. Alongside his artistic endeavors, he works as a software developer and researcher, specializing in music technology, interactive media and sound-driven AI systems.
